چکیده

This paper is concerned with the early processes of design, particularly in the context of spatial arrangements. We are interested in the strategies that a designer uses in order to achieve success and with the opportunities that might exist for computer support. The technical device that provides the focus for the work is the concept of a shape grammar. The investigation that has taken place has looked at certain opportunities that might exist for building support systems employing shape grammars and the implications that they might have for the strategic level of design. From the exploration we conclude that the use of shape grammars to expand the strategies available to a designer and to provide computational support for exploring the implications of employing given sets of design rules is promising. Moreover, we have already identi®ed a number of directions in which the research should be taken further. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Representing 3D Shape Grammars in a Generative Product Design System

A new representation of 3D shape, referred to as Dynamic Shape Representation, is introduced in this paper. This representation is aimed at better supporting the generative application of shape grammars in product design. Inspired from real design process at a cognitive level, shape transforming actions in product design instead of geometric and topologic features of the product form are repres...

Procedural Modeling as an Analytical Tool for 3D Survey in Urban Design Assessment

This paper examines procedural modeling as a tool for 3D modeling creation. Procedural modeling historically has been used for 3D visualization of natural features, but with the release of the software CityEngine in 2008, the technology can easily be adopted also in problem domains dealing with urban environments. Then, we will examine and compare two types of modeling, traditional and proc...

Supporting designers' hierarchies through parametric shape recognition

The need to implement shape grammars efficiently, rather than hardcode them, in a way that supports creativity through shape emergence is an ongoing research challenge. This paper introduces a shape grammar interpreter that supports parametric subshape recognition, and thereby shape emergence. The approach divides shapes into hierarchies of subshapes based on specified geometric relationships w...

Design of cybernetic metamodel of cryptographic algorithms and ranking of its supporting components using ELECTRE III method

Nowadays, achieving desirable and stable security in networks with national and organizational scope and even in sensitive information systems, should be based on a systematic and comprehensive method and should be done step by step. Cryptography is the most important mechanism for securing information. a cryptographic system consists of three main components: cryptographic algorithms, cryptogr...

Relational gRammars for Interactive Design

This paper describes an approach to interactive design tasks based on Relational Grammars. Relational Grammars extend traditional one-dimensional string languages to higher dimensions through user-supplied domain relations. Design support takes the form of graphic inferences on partial input during design interaction with the user. Because of the nature of the rule definitions, design elements ...
